US Nationals Wednesday Jan 3 10 am wax rec.
Snow is 32 and RH is almost 93%.
BM6 underlayer
FHF4 top glider FHF2 close behind
Top coat HF5 powder ironed then corked. SF30 close also in the mix.
Glide testing conducted today on the course:
Temps:
-3 C snow
+3 C Air, cooled to 0C
New snow falling intermittently on the track
Results:
1. LF8, FHF2, SFR30 ironed in, brushed and polished
2. LF8, FHF4, FHF5 (powder) ironed, brushed and polished with FHF3 liquid on top. Allowed liquid to dry, brushed and polished.
These two applications were close in feel, free all along the course with the SFR 30 gliding slightly better. I would anticipate that with new snow around 0 C the SFR30 will continue to out glide the other applications. SFR30 got faster over the course of the testing.
If the snow stops and the grooming mixes in the new snow I would anticipate that the FHF5/FHF application will have the edge.
Also tested were:
3. BM6, HF04, BM7, with BMR9 (liquid) on top
4.BM6, HF02, BMR5
5. LF8, HF02, FHF5 powder with FHF1 drops mixed in.

We had great results on: Start Base Klister - thin cooled, Special and Uni Plus 1:2
We are now testing covers.
Stop by Trailer 13 or find us on the track.
------
Our clear glide winner this morning was: LF8 base, HF02 race paraffin, topping - 3 drops FHF1 spread over the ski covered with FHF5 powder - ironed together. Come by if you want a demonstration of this application.
The second option would be BM6 base, HF02 race paraffin, topping BMR5 block ironed in with SERVICE fiberlene.
It is very wet out here today and the tracks are firm. The water has drained through the man made snow making an almost sun cupped surface. The temperatures today are forecast to be similar to tomorrow, with the notable change that it is supposed to freeze tonight.
In my initial kick test MFW yellow and Special klister covered with FHF 10 were the best combos. All combos have Base klister underneath which will be a very important step for tomorrow. I am going back out with some colder underlayers /mixes to see if I can find more speed and also looking to the freezing temps tonight which could make for very firm tracks especially in the morning. Zeros are also reported to be working. My observation is that a lot of the training athletes are having a hard time finding kick and also warn athletes about fast and icy downhills.

MF10, HF6 SFR 60 - Very Best
MF 10, HF 6 SFR40 2nd best
When testing skis we you need to ski the RF in about 2 km This will harden outer later improve freeness and glide.
Great racing today. Congrats to your athletes. Teams reported success with SFR 75, SFR 92, and HF 10.
The forecast has temperatures dropping to the mid teens tonight, with several inches of new snow. The high for tomorrow is likely just above zero.
Our glide recommendation for tomorrow is MF 10, then HF 6, topped with SFR 40. We will be testing several combinations in the morning, stay tuned to the blog or stop by Trailer 13 for final results. For optimizing we are looking to SFR 300 liquid, FHF 3, and if gets very wet FHF1.
For kick we will be be testing RF and OSLO lines to cover glazing new snow (RF) and tilled transformed snow (OSLO). When testing skis we recommend skiing in these waxesas kick can often improve in these lines.
07 Jan: Day 2
MF10, HF 10, SFR75 + HF10 (drip) was our best option and will continue to run the best in the colder snow (natural) up high on the course.
Air temp 0700: -5 c
1000: -10 c snow/-16 c Air
Sun coming out, course still mostly in the fog
039: MF10, HF10, SFR92
048: MF10, HF10, SFR99
1. 049: MF10, HF 10, SFR75 + HF10 (drip)
2. 051: MF10, HF 6, SFR99
052: MF10, HF Loppet, SFR99
39 over 52
51 over 48
49 over 39
49 even 48
49 over 39
I would say that 049 1. 049: MF10, HF 10, SFR75 + HF10 (drip) was our best option and will continue to run the best in the colder snow (natural) up high on the course.
For a warmer option the HF6 covered with SFR 99 (block)

Testing at 12:00pm
We are having great results with SFR 75, as are many other clubs.
Our current recommendation is:
MF 10, HF 10, SFR 75 with a few drops of HF10 ironed together. This will give the best result in the cold natural snow on top of the course. Second was SFR on the top of the mentioned base combo alone. 92 and 99 block are still running well. This would be the warming option - HF 6 covered with 99 block.
Good luck and let us know if we can help!!
Contact Justin Beckwith 802-345-6720 or Doug Bernard 208-720-2099 if we can assist you. We now have a location in Trailer 13, look for the tall Start banner outside. Please come see us for any of your Start, Salomon and Bliz needs. We also have Face Tape available for athletes in these cold temps.
Today we tested paraffin during the warmest part of the day with the hope of representing the best temperature for tomorrow. Air temp -8, snow temp -10.Our tests were conducted in pairs and with glide out and by feel.
HF 10 (Green) was our clear winner by feel and also won every glide out. HF 6 was second and HF 8 third.
Just back from a final test, ran SFR 99 against SFR 92 and SFR 60.
Start SFR 92 ( cold block) ran the best, both blocks ran better than the powder.
We will also test again in the morning.
